Punto Sur. Revista de Geografía de la UBA se propone como un ámbito de debate y propuestas en torno a la amplia variedad de temas y problemáticas que actualmente componen el campo de la geografía, aunque está abierta a contribuciones provenientes de otras disciplinas. La intención es incentivar el diálogo fecundo entre equipos e investigadores del Instituto de Geografía de la Universidad de Buenos Aires y de otras instituciones tanto de Argentina como del resto de América Latina aunque se encuentra abierto a la recepción de trabajos y propuestas de lectores procedentes de otros ámbitos geográficos.
